Nuveen completes its Schroders takeover. Cazenove Capital clients have a promise of 12 to 18 months.

On 1 October 2026 Nuveen, the TIAA-owned asset manager, completed its £9.9bn acquisition of Schroders. The wealth arm, including Cazenove Capital, is called central to the plan, but the continuity commitments to clients and teams are time-limited.

On 1 October 2026, Nuveen completed its acquisition of Schroders. The deal, first announced in February, values the London firm at £9.9bn ($13.4bn), according to Private Banker International. Schroders shares were delisted from the London Stock Exchange the following day.

Nuveen is the asset management arm of TIAA, the US retirement group. Its completion release gives the combined firm $2.6tn of assets under management as at 30 June 2026, across institutional and wealth clients in more than 40 markets.

What the buyer has committed to

The release sets out three commitments that matter to private clients.

Schroders will continue to operate separately within Nuveen for the next 12 to 18 months. Richard Oldfield, its group chief executive, stays in charge and reports to William Huffman, Nuveen’s chief executive. Both firms “intend to maintain” their existing investment teams across asset and wealth management for at least the same period while integration is planned. And the wealth businesses, Cazenove Capital included, are described as “key strategic elements” of the combined firm.

London becomes the group’s non-US headquarters and its largest office.

The release also describes the longer-term direction. Nuveen intends to build “a unified investment platform” spanning public and private markets under Saira Malik as chief investment officer. Johanna Kyrklund will run public markets and solutions and will eventually report to Malik. Private markets, $400bn across the two firms, will be organised by asset class.

A wealth arm already reshaped

Schroders had narrowed its wealth business before the deal closed. In July it agreed to sell Benchmark, its UK integrated advice business, to Söderberg & Partners. At that point, Private Banker International reported, the group said its wealth management would centre on Cazenove Capital in the UK and Schroders Wealth Management internationally. The completion release names no wealth-specific figures. A footnote puts Schroders’ joint ventures and its wealth business together at about $0.3tn.

The transaction adds to a run of ownership changes among firms that UK families use. Corient’s purchase of Stonehage Fleming and Jyske Bank’s agreement to buy Formuepleje are recent examples.

What it means for families and their offices

For a family with a Cazenove Capital mandate, nothing changes contractually on completion. The relationship now sits, ultimately, inside a US-owned group. The continuity language is a statement of intent with a horizon: 12 to 18 months from 1 October runs to somewhere between October 2027 and April 2028. That is the period in which to get written answers on who manages the portfolio, whether the investment process will move onto the unified platform, and whether custody, reporting or the fund range used inside discretionary portfolios are expected to change. Family offices that hold Schroders funds directly, or use Cazenove for charitable or trust assets, have reason to ask the same questions at their next adviser review.
