Tim Barnden is a Partner in the Immigration department at Bates Wells, where he advises individuals, couples, and families on the full range of personal and family-based immigration, human rights, and refugee claims. He has nearly three decades of experience, having begun his career in the Legal Aid sector and spent 10 years at Wesley Gryk LLP before joining Bates Wells; he led the Immigration team as Head of Department from 2018 to 2023.

He holds a BA in English from Emmanuel College, Cambridge (1986) and completed the College of Law CLE/LPC in 1993. He is LGBT+ Ambassador and EDI Champion at Bates Wells, a member of ILPA, a volunteer and former Chair of Trustees at Rainbow Migration, and is recognised as Band 1 by Chambers & Partners for both Immigration: Personal and Human Rights/Asylum/Deportation. He was named in Citywealth's Top 30 Immigration Advisors and Bates Wells won Citywealth's Immigration Practice of the Year.
