Peter Leach

Peter Leach is widely regarded as 'the founding father' of family business thinking in the UK and has advised multigenerational enterprises around the world for over 30 years. His early career was spent at BDO (formerly BDO Stoy Hayward), where he was a partner for 25 years and founder of the Stoy Centre for Family Businesses (1992), until he established the specialist family business consulting firm Peter Leach & Partners LLP in 2008. Following its sale to Deloitte LLP in 2015, he led the firm's global Family Enterprise Consulting practice, leaving in June 2019 to return to private practice; he is currently Chairman of Peter Leach Associates Ltd.

He teaches the family business elective for the MBA and MSc programmes at Imperial College Business School, where he holds the post of Adjunct Professor in Family Business, and is a Fellow of the Family Firm Institute of the USA and a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales. He is author of Family Enterprises: The Essentials (Profile Books) and co-author of Indian Family Business Mantras (Rupa). He has served as a non-executive director of Pentland Group plc and as a trustee of the Jeremy Coller Foundation and the Dorfman Foundation. His awards include the Family Business Place Red Ribbon Award (2010), the Family Firm Institute's Richard Beckhard Award (2011), and Family Business Advisor of the Year at the 2013 STEP Private Client Awards.
