John Barnett TEP is a Partner in the Tax and Private Client teams at Burges Salmon, where he has been based since 1995. He qualified as a solicitor in 1997 and as a Chartered Tax Adviser (CTA) in 1998, receiving the institute medal for the highest national exam marks. He advises a wide range of high- and ultra-high-net-worth individuals and international financial institutions on private client tax issues, including offshore structures, trusts, entrepreneurial and non-domiciled client matters, and real estate tax.

Barnett is Vice-President of the Chartered Institute of Taxation (CIOT) and has served on its Council since 2014, chairing both the Technical Policy Committee and the Oversight Committee. He previously sat on HMRC's General Anti-Abuse Rule panel and chaired the judges for the STEP Private Client Awards.
