Jean Schaffner

Jean Schaffner is a Luxembourg tax lawyer with more than 30 years of experience, ranked Star Individual in Tax (Luxembourg) by Chambers for 20 consecutive years. He was a Partner at Allen & Overy (later A&O Shearman) Luxembourg from 2000 to April 2026, where he headed the Luxembourg tax department and previously chaired the firm's global tax board. He founded his own boutique tax law firm, Schaffner, in May 2026.

His practice covers Luxembourg and international tax law for high-net-worth individuals, banks, institutional investors and private equity funds, with a focus on corporate taxation, investment fund structuring, private wealth tax planning, tax litigation and EU State Aid matters. He is chair of the scientific committee of the Luxembourg branch of the International Fiscal Association and has published six major works on Luxembourg and international taxation.
