Gary Ashford

Gary Ashford is a Partner (non-lawyer) and Chartered Tax Adviser at Harbottle & Lewis in London, specialising in contentious tax matters, tax disputes, and investigations for high-net-worth and non-domiciled clients. A former senior inspector at HMRC, he is an expert in HMRC disclosures and investigations, including procedures under Code of Practice 8 and 9 and criminal tax investigations, as well as international tax risk matters arising from overseas structures. He holds qualifications as a CTA Fellow, ATT, and TEP. He has served as President of the Chartered Institute of Taxation (CIOT) and Vice President of CFE Tax Advisers Europe. He is ranked Band 1 in the Chambers High Net Worth guide for Tax: Private Client and was shortlisted for Private Client Accountant of the Year at the 2025 Spear's Awards.
